Digital Citizenship
Each day the world is becoming increasingly digital. As you begin to use more and more technology devices at home and in the classroom, it is important to be a well prepared digital citizen. Kids today spend over 50 hours of screen time every week. The media content you consume and create has a profound impact on your social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Learning how to use media and technology wisely is an essential skill for life and learning in the 21st century. Just as you learned the rules of society (how to behave in a restaurant, manners to use when working with others, etc), it is imperative that you learn the rules of the digital world, and how to be safe and responsible with technology.
Common Sense MediaCommon Sense is the leading independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology. Everfi Ignition
Everfi Ignition – Digital Literacy & Responsibility™ combines the power of cutting-edge instructional design, rich media, and simulations to educate students and empower them with the skill set to leverage technology safely and effectively. The four-hour curriculum is designed for students in grades 6th – 9th and informs students on both “nuts and bolts” of how technology works and an introduction to STEM careers, while also placing them in virtual environments to tackle issues including privacy, security, cyberbullying, digital relationships, and the viral nature of the web.
In addition to the modules, students will apply their learning through a virtual simulation. While working toward a goal of organizing a concert for their school, students must demonstrate their mastery of digital issues—creating a blog, managing a social networking site, and working to resolve cyberbullying situations. |

The Computer as a Tool
Computers in the classroom include any digital technology used to enhance, supplement, or replace a traditional educational curriculum. As technology in the classroom becomes more abundant, the challenges of organization and self-control (against those digital distractions) have become tougher to overcome. It is important to have a thoughough understanding of the things that will aid in learning and limit distraction

Google Drive
Folders
You can find the folders under “My Drive” on the left hand side of Google Drive. To the left of the My Drive icon is an arrow. Clicking on the arrow will show the folder structure in Google Drive.
Create Subfolders
You can place folders within folders. Double click on a folder to be in the folder. Creating a new folder while in a folder allows you to create a subfolder. You can move folders in the same way you can move documents. Drag or use keyboard shortcuts to move or add folders to another folder. Subfolders (and their documents) take on the sharing permissions of the parent folder. If the parent folder is set as anyone with the link can view then all of the files within that folder have anyone with the link can view permissions. The subfolder and the documents are also anyone with the link can view.
Color Folders
I like to have different colors for the folders I use most often. To assign a color to your folder right click on the folder and choose “Change color.” The folder will not be colored for collaborators. They will need to color code their own folders.

Typing

Today, technology has led to the use of computers in nearly every business industry. With the widespread use of
computers, it has become a necessity for young adults to know how to properly use this technology, including the
proper use of the keyboard. Keyboarding is an invaluable skill among those in the workforce, as it is used to type
business correspondences, e-mails, and memos, track expenses, and create websites. Keyboarding, however, is also an extremely important skill to have in college. Typing is necessary for college reports, research, e-mailing professors and classmates, and even note-taking. While most high school and college-aged students in today's world know how to operate computers and type, many may not know the proper techniques and finger strokes for maximum typing speed and accuracy. Following proper keyboarding technique can not only increase speed and accuracy, but prevent injuries and strains related to the repetitive and time-consuming typing that every college student experiences.

Home Row Keys
Home row keys of a keyboard are keys over which your hands are positioned. There are home row keys assigned to each hand. From a home row key reach to a key to type and return back to the home row key. Home row keys are your base from where to reach out and return to. Usually one of home row keys, one for each hand, has a little dent which lets you feel that your fingers are correctly positioned over the keyboard. Rhythm
Strive to type with even rhythm. Even rhythm will rid you of tension, anxiety and will minimize mistakes made. Besides, if you slow down to achieve even rhythm you will in effect speed up. |
